Hello My Fellow ISPI Colleagues,
Sorry for the lateness of this next newsletter and meeting announcement BUT our current meeting place has closed and is trying to sell their equipment. So I have spent the past few days looking for our new location and found a nice place (actuall Randy suggested it a while back and he was right). The new place is the Lion & Rose at the Park North Shopping Center behind Jim's Restaurant.
The meeting is still THIS THURSDAY January 22nd, 2008 at 6:00pm
Tell the Hostess that you are with ISPI and we are in the V.I.P. area. This is an open area in the back and I think that it will be fine for our emergency situation. If everyone likes the restaurant then I will reserve "The Dungeon", their meeting room. Now...the menu is a bit on the expensive side so I will ask that your meal be between 11 and 12 dollars plus you will have to pay for any alcoholic drinks. I know I'll be having a couple of pints of Guinness.
As I have announced before, we are looking for a President-Elect for the chapter. Basically the President- Elect will learn about the organization and the chapter. Then after a few months, take over as president.
Just email me or tell me that you are interested.
Once again, we will have a bit of seasonal fun.
Our roundtable discussions will be “New Year's Performance Resolutions”. You know your work situation and I'm sure there are processes, procedures or business activities they you have said "the outcome could be better". So why not tell us about it and how you feel it should be changed to garner a better result BUT let's follow a HPT format that uses the basic principles of the Standards of Performance Technology. Just remember...RSVP+.
R: Focus on Results
S: System Thinking
V: Add Value
P: Work with Partners
and Use a Systematic Approach
RSVP Description
HPT is focused on Results. Results are what organizations measure. When we begin a performance improvement project by specifying the Results and then work backward to determine what we can do to better achieve them, we have a powerful formula for successful performance improvement.
HPT takes a Systems viewpoint. Every organization is a System with interdependencies within and across functions and among levels. Alignment among these elements is critical for any performance improvement initiative to become embedded in an organization’s culture.
HPT adds Value. Performance improvement is focused on delivering “valued results.” Any solution’s success must be tied to the success of the individual worker, the work or processes, and the workplace or organization.
HPT establishes Partnerships. No performance consultant succeeds alone. Our work entails developing collaborative relationships with clients and other project stakeholders, often a great many people.
So bring one of your situations, let's listen and have a group discussion on improving the system so that the outcome is better.
Check out this month's PerformanceXpress...
There is a very interesting article about OWLS (Older Worker LearnerS). With the crashing of many 401k and other retirement funds, many older workers just can't retire. More than ever we will have a multi-generational workforce - so how do we train everyone. The article takes a look at older workers.
This will be a topic for our next meeting in February. So we will spend a little bit of time this month's meeting to start the discussion and get everyone primed for next month.

ISPI’s Facebook Group On the Rise
Last month, ISPI’s Facebook Group was launched on the popular social networking site. As many of you know, Facebook is a social networking website where users can join networks organized by city, workplace, school, and regions to connect and interact with other people. Users can add friends and send them messages, update their personal profile, and notify friends about their activities.
ISPI encourages everyone (members and non-members) to join the group. In just over one month, over 100 of you have joined our Facebook Group—but we know there are more of you out there! To join ISPI’s group all you need is a Facebook account and search for “International Society for Performance Improvement” or click here to view ISPI’s group page. Simply click “Join this Group” and begin networking with other ISPI members and practitioners in the field. The group includes events, SkillCasts, conference information, and important reminders. But most important, we want to provide you with a place to network with each other. Visit now to check out our photos from our 2008 Fall Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico. If you have photos or videos you would like posted to the group, please email John Chen at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
See you at the meeting this coming Thursday!!!!!
